This night like any other two kids walked back from school a little later than usual. They talked as the ten year old boy kicked the snow around and the fourteen year old girl pulled her snow coat closer. The teacher had needlessly held them back, and she seemed rather nervous when she asked them to stay an hour to talk to them. The lady then asked them to assist her with other classroom chores. They had to miss their bus, and when the teacher released them, they had to get to their new home on foot. Both children were nervous about being out this late in the night, in such a dangerous and evil city. In the day time it was alright, but the night seemed to lure out the loonies, and murderous. The girl's eyes darted to every movement that was not their own, and didn't relax until she made sure it wasn't a threat.
She sighed, the boy was just as nervous, and she wanted to get his mind off of the dangerous ground they were treading on.
"Steven, where do you suppose he is now?" Nita asked her little brother, and he shrugged.
"I dunno. Probably at the school" Steven looked up at his sister.
"Yeah, but don't you wonder what he does in his regular life? Who he really is?" Nita asked and mused as she said it. Steven feigned ignorance, and shrugged. Nita didn't know that her brother also shared a secret with her father. "I wish I knew…"
"Yeah… I wonder if he'll teach me any more of his wrestling skills." Steven pondered excitedly, and changed the subject. Nita allowed a smile, and tucked the reddish brown hair behind her ear.
"I don't suppose dad will be talking to him anytime soon?" She asked, and held onto the straps of her backpack. She knew it had been awhile since any one had seen Damage.
"Well he did mention that he needed to discuss some information with someone tonight. Maybe we can ask dad." Steven suggested.
"I always wonder-" Nita froze in mid sentence as a tall man cut in front of them. He was large, and towered over them, making them seem small and powerless. His yellowed teeth shone as he smiled with a crazed look in his eyes.
"Can I help you?" She asked trying to keep her voice calm. Dad always told her it was best to remain calm in these situations.
"Recess is over kids." The husky voice broke out in the suddenly abandoned street. Both Steven and his sister backed in the cover of the dark alley, and the man followed.
"What do you want?" Nita asked with an even voice, bravery in her tone. The man laughed darkly.
"Boss said it would be best to eliminate you two as a little gift for your father"
"Dad doesn't need anything like that, but we really should get home it's getting late." Nita grabbed steven' hand, and tried to move around the fat man, but he didn't let them pass. He seized her by the arm.
"Listen here girly! You're going to do what I say when I say!" The man gripped Nita's arm tightly, and bruising it. Something seemed to snap inside the boy and he popped the man in the nose an instant later, emitting a small crack that could be heard. "Why you rotten little-"
He was interrupted in mid sentence. Nita had skills since she became an acrobatic at school. Also few pointers from the wrestling team, that happened to share the gym, never hurt. She slipped from the thug's grip, and slinked behind the man, and grabbed the railing. She pulled herself up, and landed on the man's back, her arms strangling his neck. She would not let the man touch her little brother.
"Steven, run!" She shouted hoping the momentary distraction would give her brother a chance to escape.
"No way am I leaving you!" He shouted and ran head on at the thug. She rolled her eyes. Why did he have to go and be heroic? The man got temporarily winded but recovered quickly pulling Nita away and tossing her at a trash crate. She hit the metal and landed roughly, but got up only to see in horror as the man held her brother by his platinum blonde hair. In a moment he had her too, his arm around her neck trying to choke her, and Steven was held in a similar position.
"Let's get this over with you brats!" The thug yelled harshly, and handled them roughly.
"I have a problem with that." A voice rumbled behind the man, and Nita felt the thug tense. She and Steven looked at each other and smiled, despite their current position. In a couple seconds they were released, and not a moment later they heard the sounds of fists hitting against flesh. They turned and saw the man on his back, and the man known as Damage standing over him, tossing the knife aside in disgust. He grabbed the man by the collar and shoved him against the brick alley wall.
"If you attempt this crime again, prison will be the least of your worries!" The incensed Damage growled darkly to the now whimpering man. They could see how angry he was, and the man nodded to the King of the geeks wrath. The thug was almost crying. 'How pathetic…' Nita thought, and Steven looked to be having similar thoughts. Damage shoved the man to the ground, and the thug went running into the night. Both of their smiles disappeared at the look on Damage's face when he faced them. It was furious.
"What were you doing out this late?" He rasped at the two, and looked around the dead end alley.
"Our teacher held us back to speak to us." Steven piped up. "She had us in the room for several hours."
Damage's eyes narrowed and he looked at Steven.
"What's your teacher's name?" He demanded.
"Mrs. Edgerson." Nita supplied, and Damage nodded curtly. He sighed as he looked over the two, and guided them out of the dark alley to the light of the lamps.
"Go home now." Damage looked around in search of anyone who might be watching. Nita and Steven nodded, and looked at each other, but when they looked to where Damage was, they only saw an empty spot from where he had been.
Damage stands on the roof of the near by empty warehouse watching the two children of a man he classes a friend. Head home in this dark city this evil place. He knows the teacher was either paid off or frightened into this he will look into that later. He even knows where the orders came from and that will also be dealt with later for now just the safety off his two god children. He follows at a distance as they arrive home. He turns his long coat billowing in the wind he drops of a building.
We join him later with a camera crew standing in front of a statue of the lady of justice. The scales are leaning to one side as Damage looks at her and then at the camera he smiles a menacing smile.
"Another place another home same ring well almost and yet again the same injustice the same evil the same darkness. Odyssey Wrestling the place for gods and goddesses and its just the same story but different geology. So I make my stand again, against Vigilante an amazing fighter pound for pound one of the most deadly I have ever faced. I beat him the last time. Does that fill me with confidence no way he has nothing to loose. He will rise like a phoenix from the ashes of Anarchy wrestling and lead the charge of the villains here in Odyssey wrestling. But just like in days of old the gods would pick one man and bless upon him such power to defend the innocent and the weak so have I been chosen. Some call me the king of the geeks, others super hero. The rest just deluded but I make a stand before your attack I strike first Vigilante."
Damage cracks his knuckles as he continues.
"Vigilante I welcome you again and this time its with electricity all around us for another belt new fans a new you. I have no doubt all ready there is back stage rumblings as you for groups like a cheap rip off of Survivor. There is much evil to choose from, many who will jump at the chance to join forces with you pretender. Choose wisely old friend because here in the war that is coming that choice is what will define you. My path is a destiny chosen for me by the gods themselves. My path is the path of the riotous and with that guiding me I will once again prove to the world why being the one white knight in this pit of darkness makes all the difference."
